Each TAO has designated Client Assistance Coordinators (CACs) to support and assist staff and clients in navigating the process of requesting, approving, denying and managing accommodations. The CAC is available to support TAO staff and provide guidance with ADA accommodation decisions or in certain circumstances to make those ADA accommodation decisions. The CAC may also work directly with some clients. The CAC is responsible for providing clients with disabilities equal access to Department benefits and services. His or her responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Working with staff:
educating staff about the reasonable accommodation processes and effective ways to interact with clients with disabilities, available accommodations and resources
supporting staff in conducting disability inquiries, managing accommodation requests, and implementing accommodations
supporting case managers working with clients who are requesting exemptions, good cause or other help; and
supporting case managers in helping clients learn about and access various programs and services
Working directly with clients:
conducting disability inquiry for clients referred by case managers
discussing barriers clients may have in meeting Department requirements and options for help
reviewing Learning Disability Assessment Reports (provided by DES); and
implementing some accommodations, where appropriate
Managing accommodation requests, approval and implementation:
reviewing all accommodation requests
participating in the accommodation approval/denial process
removing difficulties and remedies when appropriate and with the approval of the TAO Accommodation team
serving as a fixed member of the TAO Accommodation Team; and
monitoring and managing pending actions for clients with accommodations
Tracking, Monitoring and Reporting
ensuring accommodations are implemented
following up to correct issues with accommodations and implementation, as identified; and
reporting issues to Director of Disability Access
